Q.Garlic problem

Zone Guelph, Ontario | Natasha Smit added on June 14, 2017 | Answered

Hi there,

This is my first year growing garlic, in Southwest Ontario. It came up great and has been thriving. However, the last couple of days, I’ve noticed something weird with the scapes that are coming up. They almost look like they’re being eaten or borrowed into. Today, I had a closer look and broke one off and can see a little worm like thing in it. I’ve attached a couple of pictures – I also dug up a couple of bulbs and the bulb portion seems to be okay. Thanks for any help you can provide!!!

That is strange as garlic generally is used as a companion plant to deter borers because most borers do not like garlic. I would remove and dispose of any damaged plants
