Gardenia Bush

Well established gardenia bush developed brown and yellow leaves. Lots of blooms are present but some of the buds are brown before the bloom has opened. Some blooms are ok, presented as the white bloom. In the spring the bush was lush with green leaves but now looks to have a thinning effect. What type of fertilizer should be used and how much each time? I do not mist the plant everyday but it is watered on a continued basis. Is south Texas a good place for this type of plant or more suitable for a tropical climate? Thanks.

It does sound like it needs a bit more humidity. Rather than mist it, I would recommend placing it on a pebble tray with water. You can use a balanced fertilizer (e.g. 8-8-8) and follow the directions on the label as to how much and how often to apply it.
