My Chrysanthemums MUMs are too large what can I do reduce their size when and how please

Too large could mean too tall or taking up too much space. Both are easily fixed. Mums should be pinched back twice, Memorial Day and July 4th. This keeps them shorter and increases the number of blooms. You might also try digging up the entire plant next spring and dividing it. This rejuvenates the plant. Don’t fertilize; mums will do fine with an annual 2 inch layer of compost put around the plant. In the unlikely event that your problem is blooms which are too large and making the plant flop, pinch out the central or topmost buds.
