Gardenias

my gardenia plant has turned brow and brittle. Should I leave it alone or trim it? It has been cold and hot this winter and spring. Crazy weather. It is planted outside. HELP!

Most cultivators of Gardenia are hardy only in zones 8 and warmer.
The plant would sustain severe damage and most likely die if exposed to temperatures below 15 degrees F.
Unfortunately it would appear that your plant has died.
If the stems snap and break, they are not living any longer.

In colder climates a Gardenia can be overwintered indoors.
