Gardenias

This year during the winter our gardenia tree has developed a hard red growth 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch in the forks of several branch’s … we noticed them in the winter and decide to leave them alone as they appeared to just be part of the tree. We are having a tremendous season for flowers and have experienced the largest blooms …we will be trimming in another month and we are not sure if we should cut those branches and remove the hard red growths ……what are they?

Those are the beginning of seed pods. It will not hurt to cut them off, but if you leave them, then they will develop into seeds that you can harvest and plant.
