Gardenia tree

Our Gardenia tree has a white substance around some buds and big black ants. What can we do? We have it on our front porch by our door. The porch has a roof so it doesn’t get too much sun. Should it be moved closer to front edge of porch to get morning sun or what should we do? We have 2 trees (one on each side of door) but only one is affected at this time. Thank you for your help!

It sounds like the tree has aphids. The ants are attracted to the sticky substance the aphids excrete. This article will help:
