Is it good to plant a newly rooted gardenia cutting in the outdoors now or should I keep it potted indoors and plant it in the spring?

You can actually plant it at either time--spring or fall. This depends on your personal preference and the size of your seedling. If it's still relatively small, I would simply put it in a container until spring to ensure it survives over winter. Larger, more established plants can go in the ground in fall.
