Q.Gardenia Plant Care

Anonymous added on April 29, 2015 | Answered

I received a beautiful gardenia potted plant for Easter. At first about 6 flowers bloomed. Now it seems to have a lot of new growth and buds, but none of them are opening. I am doing all that I read in your gardenia care article. What, if anything, should I be doing to help the buds to open?

Since you have done everything said in the article all I can prescribe at this time is some patience. Your buds are still good candidates for blooming. Oftentimes buds will drop (bud blast) if somebody doesn't follow the advice in the article! While conducting research, I came across people in forums who said their buds grew in at the same time but grew and bloomed (sometimes in groupings) at different times. It takes a lot of energy for a bud to bloom and with all the new growth happening on your plant, the plant's resources probably are not totally invested in blooms but also into the foliar growth that you see happening as well, so this is maybe why you are seeing a delay in the blooms.
