Q.Gardenia – inside or out

Anonymous added on August 17, 2015 | Answered

Is it best to grow a gardenia inside the home or out? The last one I planted died. Now I have one that is full of buds but they just fall off when they get large. I would prefer to keep it inside, but on what side of the house? Also, what about forced air heat in the house?

Most gardenias cannot survive outside in areas that drop below 15 F. in the winter. If you live in an area that gets colder than this in the winter, you will need to grow it in a container to bring them inside.

If you need to bring it in, acclimate it before bringing in the house. This article will help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/houseplants/hpgen/acclimate-plants-indoors-winter.htm
