Gardenia Hedge

Anonymous added on June 2, 2011 | Answered

How do you plant a gardenia hedge? I want to use 'Veitchii' for a low 3' high hedge along a deck. Would this variety work? What kind of spacing between plants should I use? How will having it in a hedge form affect the flowering? How much and when should I prune it to get maximum blossoms w/o it getting too large? Will it need any special planting requirements, as I know gardenias don't like root competition? Will it require more or less sun? I live in northern CA (inland valley SF Bay area) and it can get pretty hot during the summer.
