Q.Gardenia Buds Falling Off Plant

Fine when I brought them home. . . good for one week and then buds fell off. Got one blossom – lovely. Somebody told me to mist them. I did. Still droopy. We live in eastern Pennsylvania. Too much sun? Shouldn’t mist them? WHAT?
