I have a potted gardenia plant that has many traditional buds, but when they open they are deformed. What insects and diseases do these bushes have?

It is possible that you have thrips. They are hard to see and they cause will normally prevent blooming of buds, but may also result in distorted flowering. This article will help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/plant-problems/pests/insects/controlling-thrips.htm
