The most common examples of indirect sunlight are light filtered through the canopy of trees, or through thin curtains. Light can shine through leaves of plants, but also dappled sunlight due to a thin canopy or small leaves can be called indirect sunlight.

Direct sunlight hits the plant full and unfiltered.
