Q.Foxtail Palm Trees

Zone 32940 Melbourne, Florida | Rapgs12 added on October 10, 2016 | Answered

Our foxtail palm trees have a number of broken palm fronds from wind damage. Should we trim them or let them fall off? If we trim them, where should we cut?

You can trim a limited number of fronds to improve the appearance of the trees, but it's best not to remove many. Even tattered and partially broken green leaves are still likely providing photosynthetic energy to the tree. You can remove any portions of fronts that have turned brown.
