Foxtail palm root

One of my Foxtails has what looks like some sort of disease in its base. The tree looks healthy, but the root seems to be being eaten.

Compare the appearance of your tree with these photographs showing the variation in how normal palms can look:

Here is a possible disease palms can get:

If it still looks abnormal, you might want to consult a local extension agent or arborist. Without seeing a photograph, I’m not sure I can help more.
