Four Year Old Plum Tree – Too Late To Fan?

Question

Hi. We have a plum tree (not sure what variety) that is planted next to the fence and is now (Mid June) about 8 feet high. I’ve only just read about fanning plum trees and would like to try with ours. Would it still be doable? If so, would I need to wait till next year? Finally do I cut back the branches at the end of this summer. Thanks.
