Flowers Outside in Hot Sun

The front of our house is quite hot. We want something out there that is pretty.

How many hours of sun a day? How tall, short, wide, do you want the plants to be? What color foliage and blooms? What type soil? Is it irrigated? Do you want annuals or perennials, succulents, shrubs? What zone are you in?

Thanks. You are in zone 6. My first thought as a plant choice would be any of the dianthus family. We call them pinks. The colors range from white to burgundy, with pink and purples of all hues included. The plants are perennial, get about 10” tall and spread appx. 14-16”. There are many varieties from which to choose.

If you only get morning sun, Hosta should work. There are all heights and leaf colors.
While many perennials have a limited bloom period, you can always add a few annuals for summer long color. Petunias, New Guinea Impatiens, begonias, salvia, …many other choices.
