flowering plum sucker removal

I have what I think is a flowering plum tree that grows suckers from the tree trunk to 6-7 feet from the tree. I tried sucker stopper but it made the suckers droop but didn’t kill them. The suckers have taken over our flower bed. Maybe I didn’t use the sucker stopper right. Any suggestions

The safest and best way is to cut or pull up the suckers as soon as they appear.
