Sambucus, known as elderberry not only flowers but delivers edible fruit. It prefers acidic soil but will grow in mildly alkaline soil. Pussy willow, inkberry are but a few of the other possibilities. Contact your county extension service or search online for your state’s extension service for a list of shrubs in your area.
