Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comI have a French drain beside the area but the rain comes fast and hard and floats away the wood chips that I thought would help. I don’t grow anything there just keep the weeds out. Would big rocks help? I would say the area is about 20′ long and about 5′ wide with the tree centered in the middle that is very tall.

It can help some, but there might be a need for an additional drain in the area, but you will have to be mindful of the roots. You will not want to damage these.
