Q.First Early Potato Problem

Zone Scotland, UK | Anonymous added on June 14, 2024 | Answered

Hi, I’ve been attempting to grow potatoes in bags and have just harvested my first bag. I think I might have done this too early as some of them were tiny but some were a good size. I haven’t cut into them yet to see how they look on the inside but have attached a photo of them on the outside. Other than some being tiny, the other problem is that in the bag there were two really mushy rotten potatoes. I don’t know whether or not these were two of the original five tubers I planted. Will they have affected the other potatoes? Thanks in advance

If the plants' leaves had turned yellow, they were ready to harvest. Potatoes grown in a grow bag are typically smaller than those grown in the ground, so those should be fine

The mushy potatoes would not have affected your other potatoes unless they were touching, then they would have signs of rot, too.
