Finding the right tree

I have an old house that sits in front of a large field. When it rains the water drains down and often pools in my front yard. It often submerges my water shut off valve for weeks at a time. I live in East Texas and am concerned about the old pipes. Whatever I plant needs to be able to handle standing water but not have a huge root system that will hurt my pipes. Any suggestions?

This is a difficult situation because trees that tolerate muddy soil tend to have extensive root systems. See: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/trees/tgen/wet-soil-trees.htm [1]

You may want to discuss this with experts at your local Cooperative Extension Office, as they will have information specific to your situation and climate. See: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/extension-search/ [2]
