Figs splitting and then dropping

I have a large established fig tree, which in the past was very productive. Last year it was pruned and had very little fruit. This year loads of fruit are growing but as they get larger they are splitting and falling off. Any ideas why and can we do anything to stop losing all the fruit?

Fig splitting is usually the result of sudden changes in pressure brought on by cool temperatures, high humidity, or excessive moisture as the fruit matures. It may also result from excessive pollination and the growth of too many developing seeds.
