Fig Trees

I’ve recently planted a Fig tree in Lanzarote where the ground is a very solid clay with a layer of pecon above. Whilst the tree is establishing very well, the new leaves turn brown at the edges and eventually die. What can I do to prevent this?

This typically happens when a plant is not getting enough water. With the clay soil, it may be having trouble getting enough water. Right now, increase water to the plant. Over the long term, add organic material in 1-2 layers every month or so over where the fig is planted. The material will work down into the soil and help amend it, which will give the soil a better ability to hold onto the water and distribute it more evenly to the roots of the tree.
