Fig Trees

I have several fig trees. Some have continued to create new growth throughout the summer, while others stopped producing new growth around late-June. These trees have produced figs (not yet ripe), and have closed leaf buds on the tips of all branches; but these buds don’t open as they had been doing earlier in the season. Is there a cause for this, or is it a normal part of the growth cycle?
