Fig Trees

My friend has a fig tree that produced fruit the first year, but the following two years it did not produce any fruit, but it did grow. Why is this? No pruning, no fertilizing?

It may be a nitrogen/phosphorus imbalance in the soil. Too much nitrogen and too little phosphorus can result in little to no blooming, which means no fruit. Fig trees enjoy a soil pH of 6.0-6.5.
