Fig tree pruning

Is it normal when pruning a fig tree in the winter to have the branches leak a milky type substance after a cutting?

If you see sap, then you should stop pruning. While it should be in dormancy over winter, a warm spell can start to bring it out. If the weather has been funny, the tree may be a bit confused, thus leaking sap (many figs naturally have milky sap).
