Fig tree fruit

I have a well-established fig tree of about 5 meters high and a circumference of approximately 15 meters. The tree stands on a very rocky hillside and has never been trimmed in winter and does not receive any type of feeding during the growing and fruit cycle yearly.

The tree does bear a very large crop, but before you can harvest the fruit it will burst open.
Also, the tree only gets water when it rains. What should I do to prevent the loss of the fruit? Any sound advice will be applied.

Splitting of figs can happen when there is excessive rainfall during the harvest time and the time just before the figs are ripe. The splitting occurs both because the tree takes in too much water through its roots and some of this water ends up in the figs, and because of the water directly falling on the fruits. It can be difficult to correct this problem, but improving the drainage of the soil it’s in could help (if that’s possible). Also, the tree may be more susceptible to this problem if it’s been exposed to underwatering before the rainstorms hit, so watering it during dry periods before the fruits are close to ripe could help.
