Fig Tree

Question

I have a young fig tree in a large pot which is looking very healthy and growing quickly. It is has got quite tall but has lots of bushy side shoots at the bottom.
I would like advice on how to prune this tree (if at all at this time of the year as I have never grown one before and was given the cutting in April 2016)and when should I plant it in the garden.
