Anonymous added on January 23, 2014 | Answered

I would like to know what type of tool is the best for trimming back a mature fig tree? Specific saw? Is a lopper okay for smaller branches? Thank you for your help!

Depending on the size you can use loppers, a regular hand saw or garden pruning saw for the job. A pruning saw cuts large, woody limbs 6 inches or less in diameter. Because of the small size, it's good for pruning in tight places without damaging other branches nearby. The length of the blade determines the size of the limb you can cut. For example, ten-inch long blades can cut up to 4-inch diameter limbs. This article will help with pruning your tree: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/fruits/figs/pruning-fig-trees.htm
