live in MO and this winter can I put it in the basement with a light above it for light.

You certainly can! Just be aware that if the temperature drops down to below 50, you may see some leaf drop. You will want 100 to 200 watts to keep it alive. You might be able to fit more plants near it, as long as they don't have a high light requirement.
