Q.Fertilizing Individual Hops Plants?

Zone Edmonds, WA 98026 | Anonymous added on July 6, 2025 | Answered

Hi, I just read your article (and several related ones yay!) about fertilizing hops, but the figures you gave were per acre. Do you have any advice for fertilizing individual hop plants? I just started 4 (2 Mt. Hood and 2 Komet), and they’re growing slowly, even with fresh potting soil. I bought some Sustane 8-2-4 fertilizer (from a UCSC article) so I hope to increase the Nitrogen level, especially, to get my bines growing faster. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I’m an avid home brewer and would really like the healthiest, hardiest hops. 🙂 Thanks and have a wonderful weekend!

You should follow the fertilizer package information. Here is yours:

You can go by the container medium rate (you can convert grams to ounces), if yours are in a container, or the tomato rate, which is in tablespoons.
