Q.Fertilizer preference

Zone 6 | dano added on April 21, 2012 | Answered

Which fertilizer is most effective to feed in ground and potted flowers. My neighbors disagree on the kind mixed with water versus the kind that is spread over the soil and is slow release granules. The liquid is Miracle Grow and the dry granules is Osmocote. So far I have been reluctant to use either one but the advertising showing the results is starting to tempt me.

Either one is fine, though the difference is more in how quickly it feeds the plants. Liquid fertilizer is faster than granule types, though slow-release fertilizer is probably the best option for most plants. Compost is another alternative.
