Fertilizer

Hello, I’m new to gardening and need your advise. I’ve tested my soil using a kit purchased at Lowe’s. My ph is 6.5-7, so feel that is good. My N & P are very low to zilch. No color change at all after mixing in the powder. My K is medium to high. I assume admendments are needed for N & P. Would I look for a fertilizer such as 10-10-0? This is a new garden. I live in central Oklahoma.

Thank you,
Gary S.

If you want to get accurate with it, there are many companies, such as one called NPK that will sell separated chemicals based on individual needs. You can, however find fertilizers with high nitrogen and phosphorus values on the market.

Alternatively, amending your soil with a layer of compost will suit most needs of a garden without being overbearing. Tilling this into the spot will recondition the soil to a more fertile level.

Thank you for the advice. I added several bags of compost/manure, a very light amount of lime, and a sprinkler of Garden-tone. Mixed it all in and watered well. I’ll do another soil test in about a week. Thanks again. I’m loving this gardening and I haven’t even planted yet 🙂
