Female Sago

I have a female Sago that bloomed for the first time this year. I also have a male that has produced a cone four years in a row. The two plants are roughly 30 feet apart. When the female bloomed, the flower was very open and you could see the seeds embedded in the flower. After being open for a month or more, the flower has now closed up and looks to be more in the shape of a crown.

(1) How long should I wait to remove this female flower?
(2) What is the best procedure for removing it?

For a female Sago, we recommend leaving the flower intact. The flower grows very close to the plant and you risk damaging the plant by removing it and it will not hurt the plant to leave it. You may see slowed growth while it is flowering. This is normal and growth will resume once the flower fades.
