Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comOctober 15, 2017 I have four false nettle plants that I planted last spring to attract Red Admiral butterflies. The plants look healthy and robust.
I think they are deciduous. Will they disappear, stalks and all, after frost?
What can I do to help them overwinter safely?
Thank you.

As a native plant, go by conditions in its natural habitat which is moist woodlands and boggy bottomlands. Make sure the soil doesn’t completely dry out. This is especially important if fall is dry. Otherwise, a 3-4 inch layer of shredded leaves should be all it takes to ensure winter survival. Going over leaves with a mulching mower shreds them nicely.
