fallen leaves on purple japanese maple

We have an established Japanese maple that was moved 4 month ago. Despite the move, it has bloomed during early spring as expected. However, in the last few weeks leaves have begun to fall from the lower branches and new leaves are dying off before they bloom. We would welcome any advice, as we love the tree.

How large is your tree? Did you dig a root ball large enough?
The roots of the tree will extend out to the drip line of the tree.
Was the tree dormant when you moved it?
Did the tree receive adequate water to help it establish in it’s new environment?
It’s important to water on a regular basis.

Your stressed tree can be susceptible to insects and disease so you may want to monitor it.
