Fall Bulbs

I have a bricked area in the front of my house that is quite long and empty. I would like to plant some bulbs but since it is such a long area, that might require quite a bit of bulbs. Since the flowers die off soon after, I would have the same dilemma of having a long space with no plants. My question is, what do I plant that would look good going into winter and would coordinate with the bulbs coming into spring? The bricks are beautiful tones of browns that are matched to the house. I have a small green lawn in front of bare area.

Creeping phlox is a good choice for this. It makes a great ground cover, but the bulbs are still able to grow up through it.
