Fairy Magnolia losing leaves

We planted several Fairy Magnolia White plants six months ago. Several of the plants’ leaves are turning yellow and falling off. The plants have a lot of buds and seem to be healthy. Should we fertilize them or do they have a disease? When we bought them, they were in a very shaded part of the nursery – could this also be caused by being put into a more sunny position? Thanks

They are partial to full sun so your location should be fine as long as your soil has good drainage. They could just have some transplant shock. Be sure that they are getting moderate water until they are established. Fertilize annually after flowering. I am attaching a link on why leaves turn yellow in case you notice additional symptoms;
