eucalyptus plant

Question

I planted a small eucalyptus in my “desert” garden last year. Don’t know the variety. It’s growing like crazy, spreading out with thick base stems. Should I trim it and provide a support for a few main branches and encourage upward growth or let it grow low and out?? It’s too pretty to risk losing. Thanks for your advice.
