Eucalyptus

We had a tree that died a couple of years ago. We removed most but left the lower large trunk which we recently removed to make into a garden bench. We would like to know the best way to look after the bench now that it is cut to shape. It is very rustic and is just a bit of fun for our grandchildren. What do you suggest we use to try and preserve the wood etc whilst not endangering the children with chemicals?

We have also noted a large amount of fungi on the ground around the stump and with a yard or so. Do we need to control this fungi and if so with what. It is very yellowy mushroom like to look at.

Do you have a photo of the fungus that you can share? My best guess at this time is that it is a sulfur fungus – you can view a photo at the following link and let me know if that is indeed your fungi:
