Esperanza Plant

We planted an esperanza plant last year. At first we had some flowers and some pods, but as the plant got bigger and we pruned it, the flowers and pods disappeared even though the plant did flourish. At the end of the season, we cut the plant down hoping that it would flower this year but it keeps growing in abundance but not flowering and not producing pods. We fertilize but have not found the answer to what will make it flower. PLEASE HELP! Thank you in advance.

It is likely lacking in phosphorus, which it needs to bloom. Give it some bone meal to add some phosphorus to its soil.
