Elephant ears

How long should it take dormant bulbs to ‘wake up’ after planting? I am in central South Carolina, and I set them out about 4 weeks ago. I only have about 4 out of 12 breaking ground, though we have had warm (to hot) days and mild nights with pretty good rain and waterings since they’ve been out.

Elephant ear bulbs have been known to take up to 8 weeks to sprout after being put back into the ground, so yours may still be fine. Alternatively, there may be rotten areas on some of the bulbs. You could dig a couple up and check whether that’s the problem.
