Elephant ear plants

Question

I have them in a huge pot and wonder if I can cut them back and store in the basement in the pot?

If this is a green variety of standard elephant ear, than you can do this. If this is purple alocasia, then I do not recommend taking its leaves off. I will include articles for both.
