Egg Shells and Coffee Grounds in garden

Are egg shells and coffee grounds really good to mix in your soil? I have been reading that putting crushed egg shells and coffee grounds in your holes when planting vegetables in the garden is really good, is this true? Also, I made a compost tea last summer and still have a 5 gallon bucket of it. It has been sitting covered outside since last summer, would it still be good to use this year or should I make a new one?

Thanks for your help.
