dying zucchini plants

I was told that when you plant zucchinis, you should put axle grease or something like that on the stem where you pulled it off to keep it healthy and keep it from dying. Is that true?

I recommend cutting the zucchini from the plant when you harvest them. This will cause less damage to the vines then twisting or pulling off the vegetable.
I would not recommend putting anything on the stems such as axle grease.
Here is a link about zucchini.
