It wouldn't hurt to coat it in wax, or just wipe it with hydrogen peroxide for a few days. I would recommend controlling the infection in the soil to keep from killing the rest of the tree, though.
This can be done a number of ways. I prefer using Dolomitic lime and wettable sulfur together to control soil infections. You can also choose copper fungicides, as well.
