Dying or Diseased Red Trumpet

My red trumpet vines start to bloom but then they just appear to close up or die out. What could be my problem? Plant start two years ago from a friend’s plant and his are doing just great. They were not cut back this year. What kind of problem do you think that I have? Thanks.

It sounds like it may be thrips. They can attack the base of the flowers and kill them before they open. This article will help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/plant-problems/pests/insects/controlling-thrips.htm [1]
