Dying Landscape

Question

We had to cut way down 2 of our 3 Oleander trees due to brown leaves and no flower growth last year. Our large bushes against our block wall (on the opposite side of the Oleander trees) died this year and had to be removed. Our gardener planted Rose bushes which have very little growth and look like they are dying as well. Now the bushes in front of our bay window are dying and need to be removed. We also have a small slope (approx 8 ft at the high end and 35 ft wide) where we planted ground cover (purple flowered) that refuses to grow, it’s stagnant. It will grow flowers but does not grow higher nor wider. We are losing leaves on a tree on the same side of the house where we have been having an issue with everything dying (I believe it may be dying). We cannot determine the cause of the sudden (approx one year ago) decline in our existing landscape.

Do you have any suggestions or a reason why we would all of a sudden lose our landscaping? We live in Santa Clarita, CA. I have pictures but they are on my phone so I will need a cell # to text them to you if you need to see them.

Are you being effected by watering restrictions on your area?
Has your weather been dry? Are you supporting new plantings (the roses you mention) with daily water?

Has there been herbicide treatments near your property? Any chance of overspray of chemicals near your property?

Have you had a soil test preformed? Your local County Extension office can help you attain a test kit. Contacting them also to see if any other homeowners are experiencing issues in your neighborhood.
If you have neighbors you may want to ask if they are having issues with plant material.

Have you inspected the plants for signs of disease or insects?
Are the symptoms of all the dying plant material the same?

You will need to systematically check each of the possible reasons.
