Q.Dwarf Fig Tree

Zone 6 | kathycollins added on November 1, 2012 | Answered

I was given a dwarf fig tree last spring. I transferred to a container and it is doing extremely well. It has tripled in size. My question is what should I do with it in the winter? We have cold winters and have already had several freezes. I brought it inside and put in a sunny window. Does the tree need to lose its leaves and die back like other fruit trees? Should I put it in the garage instead where it won’t freeze but will be close sometimes. Thanks

They are deciduous and will, therefore, drop their leaves in fall/winter. This article should help with overwintering your fig: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/fruits/figs/fig-cold-protection.htm
